"OBX Map Picture Find" - #4 Southern Live Oak

"OBX Map Picture Find"- #4
The Southern Live Oak is a prevalent native evergreen tree seen throughout the Outer Banks. These oak trees have lived for centuries.

On April 24th, 2020, The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners declared the Live Oak the official tree of The Town of Kill Devil Hills, NC. https://www.kdhnc.com/CivicSend/ViewMessage/Message/142185  also see Town of Kill Devil Hills, YouTube video: "The Live Oak: Kill Devil Hills Town Tree" But, this photograph was not taken in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

This photograph was not taken on Roanoke Island either. But interestingly, the non-profit group Outer Banks Conservationist purchased a property on Historic Roanoke Island to preserve a Southern Live Oak that is believed to be well over 500 years old. Wild Windy Weather on the OBX!

High tide in Kitty Hawk, NC, was at 2:40 pm today, May 9th, 2022. But unlike a normal rising tide, the strong winds today have left beach erosion throughout the Outer Banks of NC.

Kitty Hawk Ocean Rescue is keeping a close eye on the beaches of Kitty Hawk, NC & keeping the beaches safe, as pictured above. Other Outer Banks Ocean Rescue Stations throughout the Outer Banks are also busy doing the same.

Ocean Rescue Stations throughout the Outer Banks of NC are one of the true treasures that you will find on the OBX!

The strong waves pounding the coastline have left beaches shrinking today. Ocean foam rises into the air and covers the sea oats and beach vegetation, holding the dunes in place as the loose beach sand washes into the Atlantic Ocean's strong storm waters.

Please use caution when observing the oceanfront on any portion of the OBX today and for the next few days, as weather predictions call for more days of heavy winds. Please see The Outer Banks Voice,

"OBX Map Picture Find" - #2 Eastern Box Turtle

Pampered Pets Guide "OBX Map Picture Find" - #2

Sea Turtles are not the only turtles on the Outer Banks. The Eastern Box Turtle has a substantial population throughout the OBX. Please be aware while driving on our busy highways to keep an eye out for this native species. It is not uncommon to see traffic stopped as some good samaritan stops to help an Eastern Box Turtle cross the road.

Luckily this Eastern Box Turtle was not in the street, but Pampered Pets Guide photographed it on the OBX. Eastern Box Turtles are easily identifiable, but can you find this Eastern Box Turtle on the OBX?
