Dog Days of Summer - some history

It is August 2009 and we are all feeling the heat.
Most of us have heard the the phrase "Dog Days of Summer", so we wanted to research this phrase and find out a little more about this phrase and where it came from.

When the phrase was googled we were able to find lots of information. However, Wikipedia, had a wealth of information.

In addition to the phrase dating back to ancient times and the stars the Farmers Almanac pin points the date of the Dog Days of Summer from July 3rd through August 11th.
